Court sentences man to 2 yrs imprisonment for trafficking 500g of marijuana
A 37-year-old unemployed man, Victor Ejike, on Wednesday sentenced to two years imprisonment for trafficking 500g of cannabis, also referred to as marijuana.
Victor Ejike was sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Kaduna.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has charged Ejike, with dealing in restricted narcotics.
When the matter was read to the convict, he pleaded guilty to the offences of which he was charged and persuaded the court to be kind with and give him another opportunity to turn a new leaf.
Justice Hadiza Shagari, who’s presiding over
the judgment, has declared the convict guilty and accordingly sentenced him.
“The convict is hereby sentenced to a term of two years imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest,” the judge stated.
T. J. Atserhegh, the Prosecution Counsel, presented a written statement of the convict, a huge exhibit, a demand for scientific aid form, an analysis of drug.
Atserhegh informed the court that the convict carried out the offence on October 12.
He revealed that the convict was apprehended at Rigasa area of Kaduna with about 500g of marijuana.
The prosecutor also added that the offence was in contravention of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
