Court Sacks APC Lawmaker in Kwara
The court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin on Tuesday, 12th November, 2019 declared the Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Assembly candidate for Ilorin South State Constituency as the winner of the recently concluded general election.
The Court’s decision is premised on the argument that the All Progressives Congress’s primaries which produced Alh. Suleiman Abdulsalam but was later replaced with a 28 years old Hon. Hassan Azeez Oluwanilo.
The court held that the candidacy of the sacked lawmaker lacks authenticity for the 2019 House of Assembly elections and thereby announced the runner up which is the PDP candidate, Hon. Jimoh Raheem Agboola.
The PDP Candidate challenged the eligibility of APC candidate and his party nomination process at the tribunal.The court also ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a fresh certificate of return to the PDP candidate.
Meanwhile, the immediate past Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ali Ahmad who represented ilorin South in the 8th Assembly, has sent a congratulatory message to Agboola, saying that he’ll be one of the ranking members in the House.
“This is to congratulate my brother on his deserved victory at the Court of Appeal to represent my constituency in KWHA. It’s all about Kwara, and as the second most ranking member in the House, I hope they both provide clear path to good governance”
