Court rejects Shiites’ Leader, El-Zakzaky’s appeal to recover passport from DSS

BREAKING: Court discharges El-Zakzaky, wife

The Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja on Thursday March 30, 2023 rejected the appeal of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky to collect his seized international passport from the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Informant247 recalls that the DSS had taken possession of the document of El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah, since their medical trip which was allegedly scuttled by the Nigerian government in 2018.

The court on Thursday March 30 rejected the earlier request of the passport.

The Shiite leader and his wife were released by the Kaduna State High Court in 2021 following his five years stay in detention.

The DSS and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) have also revealed that the traveling documents were not in their care since they were set free by the court.

The Shiite leader took the issue to court requesting the court to mandate the secret police to return their passports for them to travel abroad for medical attention.

He reportedly sustained injury, including an eye injury when Nigerian soliders invaded his house in December 2015.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu on Thursday ruled that the cleric did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that his traveling documents were missing.
