An Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to publicize the name of Godswill Akpabio as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom North/West senatorial election.
The Informant247 recalls that the electoral umpire had omitted the names of some political actors from its published lists.
Among the political actors are the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.
It was gathered that the electoral commission had excluded their names on the ground that they did not partake in the primary elections.
Even though the ruling APC has tried to cede the tickets to Lawan and Akpabio, the electoral body, on July 9, reaffirmed that Bashir Machina and Udom Ekpoudom were the APC senatorial candidates for their respective districts.
Justice Emeka Nwite, has however, via a judgment on Thursday, revealed that the position of INEC was illegal.
The Judge explained that INEC has no reason to reject Akpabio since his name was sent to the electoral umpire by the ruling APC as its candidate.
