The popular Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable on Monday April 3, 2023 appeared before the Ifo High Court in Ogun State.
The Ogun state police command dragged him to court on six counts bordering on assault.
The singer was arrested after disrespecting five police invitations.
He recently made headlines after some police officers occupied his apartment to institute his arrest.
The singer could be seen in a video which went viral on social media, shouting and dragging the police who came to arrest him.
He could be heard saying: “I am a federal Government liability. I work with the Government too. I work with APC”.
The police arrested him on Friday March 31 at the expiration of 72-hour ultimatum given to him to surrender himself to the police force.
The arrest of Portable was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Ogun State police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
According to the spokesperson, the controversial street singer is held at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
While reacting to the incident, the police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement said: “The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offense.”
“The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty. We need to respect our law enforcement agents who perpetually take the risk of maintaining law and order and fight crimes and criminality in our society.”
