China cancels flights as COVID cases spread across cities

Most of the Chinese airports have cancelled majority of their flights due to a sudden increase in COVID-19 infections in the country.

This was revealed by Global Times, the state newspaper of China, on Thursday.

It was reported that the southern area of Chinese metropolis of Guangzhou, which was known for outrageous outbreak of the infections, has stopped over 1,000 flights from operating.

It was also gathered that the capital Beijing has also nullified more than 700 scheduled flights at two major airports in the country.

The Chinese government is currently putting in place drastic measures to forestall the spread of the infections, and among the measures in place were imposition of lockdowns, cancellations of flight, forced quarantines and mass testing.

Amid the China’s zero-Covid plan, which has had dangerous effect on its economy, the number of recorded infections across the country has increased again for weeks.

About 8,176 coronavirus cases were announced the day before, and the authorities of the China has again announced about 8,800 more infections nationwide on Thursday.

The number of infections in major cities of the country apart from Guangzhou, such as Beijing, Chongqing and Shanghai have also been rising again in recent days.
