Carry illegal firearms, be arrested, Kwara police warns

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has asked people who possess firearms illegally in the state to immediately return them to the nearest police station.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the commissioner had directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Tactical Units in the Command to emplace measures to identify, isolate, disarm, arrest and prosecute any person or group of persons found in possession of unlawful firearms, particularly prohibited firearms.

He also directed them to immediately convey enlightenment programs to sensitise the public to this development.

The commissioner warned members of the public, including groups such as vigilance groups, and other local security outfits, to desist from being in possession of firearms illegally.

The statement added, “the CP has warned any person or group of persons in possession of illegal firearms, especially prohibited firearms to with immediate effect, submit same to the nearest Police Station to avoid arrest and prosecution.

“To this end, good people of Kwara State have been enjoined to remain law-abiding, vigilant and promptly report any person or group of persons in possession of unlawful firearms, especially prohibited ones to the nearest Police Station or call the Command’s hotlines 08125275046, 07032069501.”
