All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain in Kwara State, Alhaji Iliasu Ibrahim Moro, has said that the time is now for Moro Local Government, Ilorin South/East, and other marginalized area to get Senatorial tickets in the much anticipated 2023 general elections in the state.
Iliasu Ibrahim was a former House of Assembly member, father of the present Commissioner for Works, Honourable Rotimi Iliasu, and Kwara North leader.
While speaking at a Ramadan lecture organised by the publisher of Kwara People Magazine and Convener of Concerned Ilorin West West Stakeholders for Kwara Central Senator, Honourable Abdul-Hameed Oladipupo (Mr. Nigeria), last Saturday, at the NUJ press center in Ilorin, the APC Chieftain commended the initiative of Honourable Alli to fight for equity and fairness among the marginalised local government areas.
Describing Mr. Nigeria as a round peg in a round whole for the Chairmanship of Ilorin West Local Government which he is aspiring for, Hon. Iliasu, the Jagaban of Kwara Politics disclosed that since the fourth republic, Moro Local Government Area has been marginalized and shortchanged in term of distribution of political positions.
He said, “Kwara North Senatorial District covers six local government areas which include Baruten, Edu, Pategi, Kaiama, Lafiagi, and Moro. Since the fourth republic in 1999 till date, Moro Local Government was never considered for Kwara North Senatorial seat and the impacts of Moro cannot be ignored during electioneering process.
“But when it comes to even distribution of political positions, we are often neglected. The time is now for Moro Local Government to claim the Kwara North Senatorial District ticket in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
“We need to be fair to ourselves. If we are preaching peace, we should always work towards things that could bring peace to the state and country at large. Part of what constituted insecurity in Nigeria is the clamouring for even distribution of political positions.
“Some part cannot continue to eat big and you expect the other regions who have not benefited anything to keep calm. There will always be demonstration rancor and disagreement among members of the public as we are witnessing now.”
“What we are witnessing in Moro is almost happening in other two Senatorial districts in the state. For example in Kwara Central Senatorial District, Ilorin West has always been the sole beneficiaries of the seat.
Other three local governments that constituted Kwara Central Senatorial District; Ilorin South, East and ASA have also been marginalized.
“It’s high time we learn to give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar.”
Earlier in his lecture, the Sheikh Mustapha Oloka (Imam Omoda), while delivering lecture on the theme;” Politics, Equity, and Fairness in Islam,” said, it is important for the leaders to learn to practice equity and fairness in whatever they do.
“A leader should not be selfish when it comes to distribution of positions. Even Islam preaches equity and fairness. It encourages even distribution among the members of the society.
“For example, if two Imams were given a cow, and one of them slaughtered it. He was given the part of neck because he was the person that slaughtered it and the other person takes the whole body including the laps of the cow. Do you think he has been fair to the other Imam?
“If this is related to politics, one region can’t continue to benefit and the others are often cheated. That’s not fair. There should be even distribution as Islam has taught us,” Oloka said.
He, however, urged political stakeholders in the state to come together in good term and find a way to ensure there is equity and justice in whatever they do.
