Lekki, Lagos, was engulfed in tension on Thursday night as police officers took action to disperse a crowd of sympathizers who had gathered to pay tribute and demand justice for the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.
The candlelight procession, initially organized to honor Mohbad’s memory, attracted numerous fans, friends, and fellow musicians.
However, the peaceful gathering took an unexpected turn when the police intervened to disperse the crowd, leading to several injuries among those in attendance.
Mohbad’s untimely demise last Tuesday had raised concerns and led to speculation, with fingers pointed at Marlian Record Label’s owner, Afeez Fashola, professionally known as Naira Marley.
Furthermore, disputes over Mohbad’s estate had emerged among his distant relatives in the wake of his passing.
In response to these developments, both the Nigeria Police and the Lagos Police Command have pledged to investigate Mohbad’s death thoroughly.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also called upon the Department of State Service (DSS) to participate in the ongoing investigation.
The incident at the candlelight procession highlights the emotional depth of the singer’s connection with his fans and the broader music community.
As investigations continue into the circumstances of his death, Mohbad’s legacy remains a focal point of discussion and concern among those who admired his music and talent.
