BRT driver turned deaf ear to our warnings: Victims allege

Some of the passengers of the Lagos BRT bus which colliTheded with a moving train have blamed the bus driver for the incident.

They said the bus driver did not listen to their caution when he was told not to cross the rail line.

The Informant247 earlier reported that the victims of the accident were receiving medical attention at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

Kazeem Abiola, a victim in the hospital said they saw the appearance of the train while they were still on the Agege Motor Road.

He added that the driver thought he could outsmart the train the train.

“We warned him to allow the train to leave before crossing but he was adamant. Everybody was shouting, cautioning him but he moved. Half of the body of the bus had crossed the rail track before the train hit us. I knew nothing again until I found myself here (LASUTH Emergency Unit),” he said.

Anuoluwapo Musa, a civil servant, also a victim said he jumped down from the bus as soon as the collision happened.

The injured Musa said: “I was at the back when the incident occurred. I just heard noise from the front rolls cautioning the driver. Not quite long, we were hit by the train. I was conscious enough to jump out of the bus while the train was still dragging our bus,” he said.

The Informant247 earlier reported that a train collided with BRT bus carrying passengers in Ikeja, Lagos State, leading to the death of many people and injury of several others.

This occurred on Thursday, March 8, 2023 at Adekunle Fajuyi way in Ikeja.

The train which was coming from Agege collided with BRT with state civil servants on board, while it was trying to cross the rail linking Ikeja GRA.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) took a swipe at the driver of the BRT bus which collided with a moving train in Lagos State.

The Managing Director of the NRC, Fidet Okhiria, made this remark while addressing newsmen in Abuja.

He said driver refused to stop when he was already at the level crossing and required to stop just like other cars did.

Okhiria, advised in the state to be careful when driving through the level crossing.
