British Prime Minister congratulates Tinubu on election victory
British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has congratulated the newly elected President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his election victory.
Tinubu, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC was declared the winner of the election in the early hours of Wednesday.
That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the (APC), having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman declared in an announcement at the National collation center on Abuja.
Tinubu, 70, came out tops in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states, and secured significant numbers in several other states to claim the highest number of votes — 8,794,726, almost two million votes more than his closest challenger — former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shunak in a tweet on Wednesday
congratulated Tinubu while looking forward to a more robust relationship between the two countries.

Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos State has also been presented with a certificate of return by the INEC Chairman after his victory at the poll. He will be sworn on May 29, 2023
