BREAKING: Kwara PDP stakeholders give Saraki go-ahead to begin talks with APC G15, other political parties
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mandated its leader and former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to commence engagements with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s G15 and other political parties as part of efforts to strengthen the party and expand its support base ahead of future elections.
The resolution was reached at a two-day stakeholders’ meeting held between August 5 and 6 at Saraki’s residence in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Ilorin, according to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting on Thursday.
The communiqué was signed by the Kwara PDP Chairman, Hon. Adamu Isa Bawa, and the State Secretary, Engr. Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode.
The meeting, attended by stakeholders from Kwara Central, Kwara North and Kwara South Senatorial Districts, including former and serving public office holders, party executives, candidates, aspirants, elders, women and youth leaders, said the decision followed an assessment that the PDP in the state remained “strong and united.”
The communiqué stated that the stakeholders mandated Saraki “to proceed with engagements with members of the Kwara APC’s G15 and other political parties, with the objective of further strengthening the PDP and expanding its base ahead of future elections.”
The stakeholders also resolved that all party leaders, aspirants and candidates should set aside personal ambitions in the interest of the party, stressing that unity, sacrifice and collective commitment would be crucial to the PDP’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
According to the communiqué, participants noted that such unity would become even more important if the proposed admission of members of the APC’s G15 into the PDP is eventually implemented.
The meeting also passed a vote of confidence on Saraki, citing what it described as his consistent leadership, political experience and commitment to the PDP and the people of Kwara State.
The stakeholders further commended Saraki’s inclusive leadership style, saying it contributed to the successful conduct of the party’s congresses and strengthened internal democracy and unity within the state chapter.
They reaffirmed their loyalty to the PDP and pledged to work together under Saraki’s leadership to reposition the party for victory in future elections.
