Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus, Alex Telles ruled out of World Cup

Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles have been ruled out from the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar due to knee injuries.

Brazil’s Team Doctor Rodrigo Lasmar had earlier confirmed that the duo will go for a scan as they were both substituted in Friday’s defeat to Cameroon.

Reports on Saturday has now indicated that Jesus would be sidelined for a month while Telles is also potentially facing surgery.

Beyond World Cup, the development also represent blows to Arsenal and Sevilla.

The statement from Brazil football federation on Saturday reads:

“Accompanied by the doctor of the Brazilian team, Rodrigo Lasmar, they performed an MRI on the right knee that confirmed the injuries and the impossibility of recovery in time to participate in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“The coordinator of the Brazilian national team, Juninho Paulista, is in contact with the sports directors of Arsenal and Sevilla to define whether Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus remain with the squad in Doha for continuity of treatment or if they return to their clubs.”

Brazil will face South Korea in their round of 16 match
