Guinea Bissau renames stadium after Pele

Guinea Bissau has become the second country to rename a stadium after the great football legend, Pele.

It would be recalled that Cape Verde became the first country to rename their 15,000-capacity stadium in their capital after the former Santos player.

Guinea Bissau on Friday morning followed suit as the country’s president Umaro Sissoco Embalo named Estadio Rocha stadium after Pele.

The decision was arrived at after the meeting of the Council of Ministers in the country.

Earlier,FIFA president Gianni Infantino during the burial of Pele said each of the 211 member associations would be asked to name at least one stadium in their respective country after Pele as a mark of honour.

The world’s football governing body has also renamed the football pitch in its headquarters “Estadio Pele- FIFA Zurich
