Borno Gov Zulum calls for urgent action amidst renewed Boko Haram attacks
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has expressed concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks, the dislodgement of military formations, and the daily abduction of citizens in various communities in the state, lamented that these incidents signify a loss of ground in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Governor Zulum, while disclosing this known during a special expanded security meeting that included key military and security officials, highlighted the support his administration has provided to the military, which has led to a period of relative peace over the past three years.
However, the governor said that the recent upsurge in attacks, particularly in areas such as Wajirko, Sabon Gari, Wulgo, and Izge, calls for urgent attention and intervention.
The governor commended the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their unwavering support but stressed the need for enhanced efforts in equipping the military with technological advancements to combat these renewed threats effectively, adding that the ongoing violence poses significant setbacks not only for Borno State but for the entire North-East region.
Traditional leaders, including the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Elkanemi, echoed the governor’s sentiments, acknowledging the efforts of security agencies while also pointing out that several local government areas remain under the control of terrorists, leaving communities without civil authority.
The Shehu called on the federal government to prioritize the reconstruction of essential federal roads within the state, which are critical for facilitating movement and restoring governance in affected regions.
