The Bauchi State House of Assembly on Wednesday elected Hon Babayo Muhammad, who represents Hardawa Constituency, as the new Speaker of the state assembly while also electing the member representing Dass Constituency, Hon Ahmad Abdullahi, as the new Deputy Speaker.
The Informant247 gathered that the decision followed the nullification of the elections of the immediate past speaker and deputy speaker, Abubakar Y Suleiman and Jamilu Umaru Dahiru, respectively, by the Court Appeal in Abuja.
According to a report, the election of the new Speaker followed a nomination by a Member representing Shira Constituency Auwal Hassan and was seconded by a Member representing Burra Tanko Ibrahim.
Both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker were sworn in by the Clerk of the House, Umar Yusuf Gital.
Subsequently, the Speaker was escorted to his seat by the mover and seconder of the nomination and Deputy Speaker.
In his acceptance Speech, the new Speaker thanked Allah for his emergence and assured people of the state that his doors would remain open while also commending his colleagues for the confidence and trust to lead the assembly, adding that the house would do everything possible for the overall development of the state.
