Barber arraigned for allegedly stealing phone, money

A 20-year-old barber, Monday Adesetenikan, on Thursday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for alleged stealing of N30,000 and a Tecno POP2 worth N53,000.

The defendant, whose address was not given, was arraigned on a two-count charge bodering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant committed the theft on Dec. 6, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. on Eleku Street in Okitipupa.

He said that the defendant stole the money and phone from one Miss Elizerbeth Olagbegi, at her residence.

Omoyeigha noted that the alleged offences were punishable under Sections 517 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, granted him bail in the sum of N80,000 and two sureties in like sum.

He added that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 10 for hearing.  (NAN)
