Avoid Post-Office flyover bridge, KWARTMA tells Okada riders, others

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority has urged motorcyclist, cyclist and pedestrians to avoid using the Post-Office flyover bridge ‘in their own interest’.

This is coming after the partial closure of the flyover bridge for routine maintenance between Saturday, 28 and Sunday, 29 of August to repair damaged solar lights.

A statement issued by the Authority’s spokesperson, Omotayo Taofiq RTO, in Ilorin on Saturday, however said the bridge has been reopened for public use.

The statement quoted the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Yekeen Bello, to have commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and also reiterated that ‘articulated vehicles, trailers and other heavy duty vehicles are prohibited from driving over the bridge’.

The statement reads in part, “After long hours of closure of the post office flyover bridge in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, for the installation of modern solar powered street lights by the Kwara State Government earlier yesterday Saturday 29 August, 2020, the installations had just been completed and the bridge opened for public use.

“The lights which were meant to illuminate the hitherto dark areas of the post office (flyover bridge) would increase safety of the people, improve economic activities and reduce crime.”
