Appeal Court upholds Aliyu’s election as Sokoto governor

Sokoto Governor Aliyu

The Appeal Court in Abuja on Monday upheld the election of Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as duly elected governor of Sokoto State.

The Informant247 gathered that a three-man panel of justices of the court affirmed Aliyu as the winner of the March 18 governorship election after dismissing the appeal of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Saidu Umar.

It would be recalled that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos, Sokoto State, had upheld the victory of Aliyu of the APC in an earlier judgment, where it held that the petitioners, the PDP and its candidate, failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The PDP and its candidate, Saidu Umar, had approached the tribunal challenging the victory of APC and its candidate, Ahmad Aliyu, in the March 18 governorship election in the state.

They extended their search for justice to the Appeal Court, where they also lost on Monday.
