APC doomed to face inevitable rejection in 2027 – PDP govs

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has made a sweeping condemnation of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), asserting that the party is “doomed to face inevitable rejection by the Nigerian masses in the 2027 general election” due to its lack of an actionable agenda and clear vision.

This statement was delivered during the PDP-GF’s 2025/7th meeting, led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, held in Gusau, Zamfara State. The Forum underscored the necessity for unity among its members to support the upcoming National Convention, scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. They view this convention as an essential step in re-establishing the PDP as a credible alternative to the ruling party.

In a communiqué following the meeting, the PDP-GF expressed appreciation for its members’ loyalty in the face of intimidation and alleged anti-democratic practices by the APC-led Federal Government. “We commend the resilience of our leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections,” the statement noted.

The Forum called upon its members to remain vigilant against attempts by anti-party forces to disrupt their plans. “This sad situation should only be seen as the sign of the desperation of a political party with no agenda, no vision,” they declared.

Reiterating their commitment to the resolutions from the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July 2025, the governors insisted that the National Convention must be held as planned. “We urge members to resist all attempts by anti-party forces to derail the November 15 National Convention,” they emphasized.

The Forum, furthered condemned the “over-militarisation, irregularities, and violence” that marred the recent by-election held on August 9, 2025. They appealed to Nigerians to be disciplined in protecting their votes, highlighting the election as indicative of the APC’s anti-democratic tendencies.

On security issues, the PDP-GF commended the Zamfara State government for its commitment to tackling insecurity but expressed concern about the ongoing violence in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States. “We call on the Federal Government to be more responsive to the lives and properties of the citizenry,” they urged.

The Forum, however, expressed gratitude to the Zamfara State government for hosting the meeting and congratulated Governor Dauda Lawal for his effective leadership, while also extending their condolences to the people of Zamfara State over the death of the Emir of Gusau and to the people of Oyo State for the recent loss of traditional rulers.
