Ayo Akinyelure, the senator representing Ondo central senatorial district has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His resignation was contained in a letter, read at plenary on Wednesday by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, who presided over the session, saying his resignation from the PDP takes effect on June 11.
He said: “This is to formally inform you and all my distinguished colleagues in the ninth Senate of the National Assembly that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with effect from June 11, 2023.
“I, therefore, wish to express my appreciation to the party for granting me the opportunity to serve Ondo Central Senatorial District and Nigeria in the Senate of the 9th Assembly on the platform of PDP. This decision has come at this time since the ninth Senate is coming to an end soonest.”
He explained that his resignation was to enable him to settle down and look forward to other areas of human and professional endeavours where he could be of value to Ondo State and Nigeria in general.
The informant247 recalled that Matthew Urhoghide, senator representing Edo South in the ninth Senate, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
His resignation, which was contained in a letter read by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, who presided over the plenary on Wednesday, stated that the lawmaker is yet to announce his new party.
