Following The Informant247 report on how the Chairman of Kwara Ladies FC, Jimoh Daudu mismanaged club fund and stalled team’s progress, the Chairperson of House Committee on Sports, Youth, Information, Tourism, Rukayat Shittu has disclosed that the Kwara State House of Assembly will investigate the matter.
The lawmaker in a facebook post on Monday commended the medium for the report, noting that it will bring about progress to sports in the state.
She said, “My attention has been drawn to a media report alleging fraud in Kwara Ladies FC.
“I commend the media for their commitment and efforts to bring about progress in Kwara sports and I assure them that the Kwara State House of Assembly will investigate the report.
“Kwara Ladies FC and the entire staff should rest assured that as representative of the people, @rthonsalihudanladi
led assembly will protect and defend their interests.”
The Kwara State House of Assembly had in June 2022 recommended to the state government the dissolution of the board and staff of Kwara Ladies Football Club, constituting a new one to reflect the state’s geographical realities.
The recommendation was part of the resolutions of the House following the adoption of a report on a petition addressed to the House Committee on Sports, Tourism, and Culture.
The committee, chaired by Mr. Awolola Olumide Ayokunle representing Isin constituency, discovered the misappropriation of the monthly subvention paid to the club, necessitating drastic measures to rectify the situation.
The assembly also urged that the reconstituted board should seek a special release of funds from the government to settle the outstanding entitlements of laid-off staff and also allowed former staff interested in rejoining to reapply for vacant positions while the club is placed under the Kwara State Sports commission.
In the report, Informant247 however revealed how some of the staff of the team were disengaged and paid peanuts as a ‘severance package’ by the Kwara State Sports commission while the chairman who was accused of the fund mismanagement still runs the affairs of the club.
