Nigeria’s Super Eagles have returned back to winning ways after securing a 0-1 victory over the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau on Monday in their reverse fixture of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.

While Eagles had on last Friday lost 0-1 to the team in Abuja, a Moses Simon’s 30th minute penalty was all the Jose Paseiro’s side needed to saw of the hosts at the September 24 Stadium in Guinea Bissau.

With a slight improved performance and Paseiro making five changes to the line up, Eagles dictated the most part of the game
but failed to create goal opportunities to get behind goalkeeper Jonas Mendes.

While Chukwueze and Osimhen made the best of the cutting edge, their lack of precision at goals didn’t do the Nigerian team any good.

Victory meant the Eagles returned to the top with nine points, with Guinea Bissau second on seven and Sierra Leone, who spanked Sao Tome and Principe on Wednesday, third on five points.

The next round of the qualifiers will be in June, when Nigeria travels away to Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau take on bottom-placed Sao Tome and Principe.
