Argentina captain Lionel Messi has won the 2022 World Cup Golden Ball award after leading his side to their first World Cup victory since 1986.
The 35-year-old who was an integral part of the Albicelestes team scored seven goals with three assists at the tournament, including a brace in the final to pick up the player of the tournament award.
It’s the second time of winning the award in his career, after scooping it also in the 2014 world cup which was held in Brazil.
Lionel Messi became the first player in World Cup history to score in every round of a single edition of the tournament after putting Argentina ahead against France in Sunday’s final.
The Golden Boot award went to his fellow PSG star and is for France’s sensation forward, Kylian Mbappe.
The 24-year-old scored eight times in the Qatar World Cup, including a hat-trick in the final.
While Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez was clinched the Golden Glove award as the best keeper of the tournament, the young player of the mundial goes to Argentina’s 21-year-old midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
