Adeleke’s ally shot dead in Osun motor park leadership tussle

Olalekan Oyeyemi, an ally of Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State, has been shot dead in the Ile-Ife area of the state.

Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, was reportedly killed on Sunday during a clash between rival factions over control of motor parks in Ile-Ife.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, said operatives were deployed to the area after the command received a report of shooting around the Energy filling station in Ile-Ife.

“The attention of the police was called to an accident which occurred around Energy filling station Ile-Ife, following which operatives were promptly deployed to the area to restore normalcy, secure the scene and commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement reads.

The police said preliminary investigations showed that Oyeyemi was shot and that efforts were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Olalekan Oyeyemi aka Emir was shot. The command is currently working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and bring all persons found culpable to justice.”

Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke’s spokesperson, also confirmed Oyeyemi’s death in a separate statement.

According to Rasheed, Adeleke directed the warring factions to immediately vacate the motor parks following the killing.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the Osun state police commissioner to immediately arrest all those involved in the killing of Mr Ajagungbade Emir,” the statement reads.

“Responding to the killing, which allegedly resulted from a park leadership tussle, the governor further directed the immediate vacation of the motor parks by warring groups and the establishment of a Park Management System with immediate effect.

“While calling for calm among the citizenry, the governor further directed security agencies to restore normalcy across the motor parks and ensure the maintenance of law and order across the state.”

In July, Adeleke ordered the suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun following violence in motor parks across the state.

Oyeyemi had previously faced legal proceedings over allegations of murder. In November 2024, he was remanded in the Ile-Ife correctional centre in Osogbo following an 11-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force.

In January 2026, he denied involvement in the killing of Oyebamiji Kazeem, an official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
