Accident kills 17 persons, injures 4 others in FCT – FRSC
17 persons have lost their lives while 4 others have sustained various degrees of injuries in a road accident on Kwali-Abaji Road, Awawa in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
This was confirmed by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in a statement made available on Tuesday in Abuja.
Kazeem revealed that the motor accident which happened around 6:30 a.m affected two vehicles.
The vehicles that were involved in the accident were a Toyota Bus having GME 201 ZU as registration details and a DAF Trailer having BAU 632 XA as registration number.
He added that the 22 persons who were affected in the motor accident were all males.
He further said that the victims who sustained injuries were given first aid attention by rescue team of the corps before they were hospitalized to the hospital.
“Out of 22 victims, four persons sustained various degrees of injury, 17 died while one was rescued without any injury.
“Investigations revealed that the crash happened because of speed limit violations and fatigue,’’ he said.
Kazeem added that the road safety corps emergency rescue personnel have taken those who sustained injury to Abaji General Hospital while the remains of the deceased victims were moved to the morgue.
Dauda Biu who’s the Acting Corps Marshal, has sent message of advice to road users to drive safely and that they should not break the rules of the road.
Biu, therefore, implored motorists to do away with night trips and always rest themselves for about 30 minutes after every four hours drive to avoid auto crash on the express ways.
He also admonished them to do away with compromise of road traffic rules and regulations.
The acting corps marshal has given assurance to members of the public that the corps would continue to do more and diligently carry out it operational activities to avoid accidents in roads.
Biu has also informed members of the public to always make use of the National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and the FRSC toll free line 122 to report emergency situations.
