The relatives and sympathizers of the 62 passengers kidnapped on the Abuja-Kaduna train have alarmed that the train service must be put on hold until the rescue of the affected passengers are effected.
Recall that some unidentified bandits, on March 28, 2022, planted explosives that derailed train AK-9 while on its last lap from Abuja to Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria.
Up to nine persons lost their lives and over 60 got kidnapped in the process, before the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Alwan Ali Hassan was later released.
It should also be recalled that the railway service corporation had announced last week that the repair on the rail track had been done, even though the likely moment for commencement of service was not stated.
The relatives and friends of the victims in Kaduna on Monday, demanded the immediate release of the victims.
They also explained that the train service must not be allowed to commence operations until the victims are set free.
While speaking through their spokesperson, Dr. Abdulfatai Jimoh, the relatives of the abducted passengers accused the NRC for not engaging with them, minute by minute, as instructed by president Muhammadu Buhari.
“Still, one week after this presidential directive was issued, the NRC has never contacted the relatives of the kidnapped victims nor established any situation room. This display of gross incompetence and insensitivity should lead to appropriate punishment,” Jimoh said.
