2027: ‘We want reps seat’, Moro stakeholders beg APC leaders
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have decried what they described as decades of political marginalisation and called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to ensure fairness in the distribution of elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press conference attended by The Informant247, the group said the people of Moro had suffered “monumental oppression and injustice” within the APC, particularly in the ongoing internal arrangements for the selection of party candidates for the 2027 elections.
The group lamented that since the return of democratic rule in 1999, Moro Local Government had been denied opportunities enjoyed by other local government areas in Kwara North Senatorial District, including Baruten, Edu, Kaiama and Patigi.
According to the group, Moro has never occupied the House of Representatives seat for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency in nearly 30 years of democratic governance.
They noted that while Edu Local Government had held the seat for 16 years and Patigi for 12 years, Moro had been unable to produce a representative despite repeated efforts.
The stakeholders also complained that the Senate seat for Kwara North had remained largely inaccessible to aspirants from Moro, saying it is a “no-go area” for the local government.
They questioned why the situation had been allowed to persist and appealed to political leaders in Kwara North and the state to intervene and end what they termed an injustice in the political system.
The group recalled that Governor AbdulRazaq had previously promised to address their concerns by ensuring that Moro secured the APC’s House of Representatives ticket, a development they said encouraged four aspirants from the area to contest for the party’s ticket during the primaries.
In their appeal, the stakeholders urged the governor to uphold the principles of fairness, equity and justice by ensuring that Moro Local Government is not left out in the political arrangements ahead of the next elections.
They praised the governor for facilitating the emergence of a governor from Kwara North, saying he had already become a hero to the people of the district by promoting inclusiveness and equity.
Meanwhile, the statement concluded that the work of achieving political balance in Kwara North would remain incomplete unless Moro Local Government was given an opportunity to produce the House of Representatives candidate.
