2027: Group canvasses support for Yahaya Seriki, says time for youth leadership

A youth-driven political movement, Amba Lokan Global Youth Movement (ALOGYM), has thrown its weight behind the governorship ambition of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that the time has come for young people to take active roles in leadership.

Speaking at the inauguration of the group’s Executive Council on Saturday, the Convener, Comrade Olajide Wolimoh, said Nigerian youths must move beyond rhetoric and assume responsibility for nation building.

Addressing participants drawn from across the 16 local government areas of Kwara State, Wolimoh described the gathering as a defining moment for youth engagement in politics.

“For too long, young people have been told they are the leaders of tomorrow. At ALOGYM, we say tomorrow is too far. The time is now,” he said.

The event, themed “Youth for Nation Building: It’s Our Turn – Kwara 2027 Amba Lokan,” brought together youth leaders, political stakeholders, civil society actors and members of the press.

Wolimoh used the occasion to formally declare the group’s support for Seriki Gambari’s governorship bid, citing what he described as the aspirant’s track record in youth empowerment through scholarships, skills development initiatives and support for small businesses.

According to him, such interventions distinguish Seriki Gambari as a leader who sees young people as partners in development rather than mere political tools.

“This movement is built on the belief that youth potential must meet real opportunity. From today, our structures across Kwara and beyond will serve as mobilization platforms in support of this ambition,” he said.

He added that ALOGYM would intensify grassroots engagement, including voter education and community outreach, as part of efforts to galvanize support ahead of the election.

The inauguration of the Executive Council, he noted, marks the beginning of a coordinated campaign effort aimed at reaching voters at the ward level across the state.

Wolimoh also called on youths to actively participate in the political process, urging them not to remain passive observers.

“To every young person here, this is a call to action. Be part of the movement. Engage, mobilize and take ownership of the future,” he said.

He appealed to elders and political stakeholders to support youth inclusion, stressing that broad-based collaboration would be critical to achieving meaningful change.

“The journey ahead will not be easy, but with unity, clear ideals and grassroots mobilization, victory is possible,” he added.
