2024 Olympics: Nigerian athletes receive foreign camping allowance

Senator John Owan Enoh, the Honourable Minister of Sports Development has disclosed that both domestic and foreign camping allowances have been disbursed to Nigerian athletes as they round up their foreign training tour in Germany and Spain.

This is coming with just three days left until the highly anticipated 2024 Olympic Games kick off in Paris, France.

Enoh, in a statement noted that the priority of the federal government is to motivate the athletes in order to boost their morale ahead of their international showpiece.

A total of 88 athletes will represent Nigeria in 12 different sports at the Olympic Games, which commence later this week.

The contingent held its foreign training program in Saarbrucken, Germany, while the football team camped in Spain.

The foreign training followed a period of domestic training camp, which prepared athletes for the games before the foreign camping to further prepare mentally, physically, and psychologically under conditions similar to those in Paris.

The Minister said “Our athletes have shown incredible dedication and resilience, and we believe they are ready to make the nation proud, ensuring our athletes are well-prepared and motivated is a top priority. We are committed to providing all necessary support to help them excel on the global stage”

The timely financial support from the ministry is said to underscore the Ministry’s dedication to fostering an environment where Nigerian athletes can focus on their preparations and deliver outstanding performances in Paris.

The Honourable Minister concluded, “Our athletes have the full support of the nation. We believe in their abilities and are confident they will give their best at the Games. Let’s all rally behind Team Nigeria and cheer them on to victory.

It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved over N12 billion for Team Nigeria’s preparation and participation at the forthcoming 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, France.

The approved N12 billion is divided into two parts, with N9 billion for the Olympics involving able-bodied athletes and scheduled to hold from July 26 and August 11,  while over N3 billion was earmarked for the Paralympics focus on physically challenged athletes and slated from August 28 to September 8.
