2 men arraigned over alleged criminal intimidation in Benue

Two men on Wednesday appeared in a Court over alleged intimidation of a staff member of Dangote Coal Mine, Otukpa, Benue.

Abdul Papa and Mustapha Abdullahi were charged by the police with criminal intimidation.

Insp Veronica Shaagee, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the case was through letter No. AR: 3100/BNS/ OT/VOL.3/29 dated November 16 moved from the Otukpa Division to State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi.

Shaagee also that on November 15, Mr Faniyi Segun of Dangote Coal Mine, Otukpa, brought the matter to the awareness of the law enforcement agency at Otukpa Police Station.

She narrated sometime in October 2022  the defendants issued a threat to deal with Segun because they were upset with him for not giving them chance to steal the diesel of the company.

Shaagee said the offence was in violation of the provisions of sections 97 and 398 of Penal Code law of Benue.

She revealed that investigation into the matter was still proceeding.

When the matter was read to the defendants, they however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Vershima Hwande, the Magistrate, granted the accused individuals N100, 000 bail in the sum plus one surety each in the like sum.

Hwande has adjourned the matter until January 10 for further mention.
