Man in court over alleged stealing of property valued at N5m

A man, Richard Stephen, was on Wednesday brought before a Kaduna Court over alleged theft of property valued at N5 million from a shop.

Stephen, whose address of residence was not disclosed, is standing trial of unlawful entry, stealing and conspiracy.

When the matter was read to the 35 year old man, he however pleaded not guilty.

Chidi Leo, the prosecutor informed the court that the defendant carried out the offences with two other persons on November 11, around 12.35a.m. along Shagari Road Barnawa, Kaduna.

Leo narrated that the defendant invaded the shop of Mr Kingsley Chike, the complainant, and dispossessed him of laptops and phones worth N5 million.

He explained that the complainant brought the matter to the awareness of the law enforcement agency ( police ) and the defendant was apprehended after the police investigation was conducted.

Leo added that the offences were in violation of the provision of Sections 241, 271 and 322 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

Ibrahim Emmanuel, the Magistrate, admitted the defendant to the sum of N500, 000 bail plus two sureties in like sum.

Emmanuel directed that the sureties must have reliable source of income and possesse evidence of two years tax payment to the government of the State.

He said that the sureties should live within the jurisdiction of the court.

The magistrate has adjourned the matter until January 11, 2023, for hearing.
