Woman escapes lynching over alleged kidnap attempt in Ilorin

Residents of Isalekoko in the Ojagboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday morning foiled an alleged kidnap attempt after a woman was reportedly caught trying to lure children in the community.

The Informant247 gathered that the woman was first spotted around 7:30 a.m. roaming the streets, trailing children in the neighborhood. Her suspicious movement raised concerns among traders, one of whom alerted members of the community.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect attempted to lure a child before she was accosted by residents. “She kept following children she noticed around before one of the traders called the attention of others,” a resident said.

Angry passersby descended on her, beating her severely, before the community leader intervened. She was later rescued from mob action and promised to be handed over to the police.

A source disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate of about 60 members who had infiltrated Kwara State, with 15 reportedly assigned to the Isalekoko axis.

“She was beaten but not much because the community leader rescued her,” a source confirmed.

As at the time of filing this report, police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
