Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has made a significant announcement regarding the reclamation of 167 plots of land located in some prestigious districts of Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The affected areas include Maitama, Gudu, Wuye (which saw the highest number of revocations, totaling 41 plots), Katampe, Katampe Extension, Wuse 2, Jabi, Utako, Idu Industrial Zone, and Asokoro (with the second-highest number of revocations, totaling 39 plots).
According to a notice issued in Abuja on Thursday night, these plots were revoked due to the continued failure or refusal of their allottees to develop them in accordance with the terms of their Right of Occupancy.
“The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) hereby informs the general public that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978, revoked the underlisted plots with names and titles as reflected in our records for continued contravention of the terms of development of the Right of Occupancy, to wit non-development,” stated the administration in the notice, signed by Permanent Secretary Mr. Olusade Adesola.
Among the revoked plots in the Maitama district (A05) were those associated with individuals like Liyel Imoke, Musa Aboki Egu, Hassan Hadejia, and Ishaya Baba.
In Jabi, some of the revoked plots belonged to allottees such as Sam Nda-Isaiah and Donubari Josephine Kogbara.
Katampe district included Peter Gregory Obi and BUA International, among others, as affected allottees.
In various other areas, the revoked plots were associated with names such as Julius Berger Nigeria, Honeywell Construction, Uffot Joseph Ekaette, Shittu Mohammed, Udoma Udo Udoma, Kanu Agabi, Niki Niki Tobi, Ishaku Bello, and others.
Upon assuming office, Wike had pledged to restore the master plan of the territory and revoke plots that had not been developed or whose ground rents had not been paid for extended periods.
As a result, he provided a two-week grace period for allottees to settle their ground rents; otherwise, their allocations would face revocation.
