The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has told the people of Nigeria to come out in numbers to vote for the candidates of their choice, in the forthcoming presidential election scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
The US president made this appeal to Nigerians in a statement released on Thursday, February 23, 2023 ahead of the country’s elections.
Biden encouraged the people of Nigeria to make their voice heard through their voting power.
“Elections are a fundamental part of a functioning democracy, and all Nigerians deserve this chance to choose their future — freely and fairly.
“On election day, I encourage all Nigerians — no matter their religion, region, or ethnicity — to exercise this fundamental freedom and make their voices heard — including young voters, many of whom may be heading to the ballot box for the first time.
“While the United States does not support any single candidate or party, we strongly support a peaceful and transparent process that reflects the will of the people of Nigeria,” Biden said.
The US said he’s excited to know that the presidential candidates and their political parties have signed peace accord, and expressed his readiness to stand with the people of the country to preserve their democracy and future.
He commended the Nigerian president over his commitment to and respect for the people’s will.
He encouraged “voters to remain peaceful and patient as their ballots are tallied, and urge the political parties and candidates to live up to their pledge.”
