25 LGAs in Borno lack Naira new notes – Zulum orders creation of emergency MFB branches

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has said that 25 local government areas out of 27 are longing for the new Naira notes.

The Governor ordered that the state Ministry of Finance and that of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation to put in place branches of Borno’s existing Microfinance Bank, and ICT centres across the 27 local government areas.

This came following the order from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, that January 31 would be deadline for the legal acceptance of the old Naira Notes.

“At the moment we only have two LGAs with banking services and these are Maiduguri and Biu. The distance from most of the local governments to either Maiduguri or Biu is too long”, he lamented.

He advised the officials of the government to make sure the money of the citizens isn’t lost.
