The Informant247 learnt that female students in Katsina did better than their male colleagues in the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.
Prof. Badamasi Lawal, the Commissioner for Education in the state made this revelation at the closing event of the Girl Education Project (GEP-III) on Thursday in Katsina.
The professor has related the performance to the seriousness and dedication of the government to empower girls through benefiting educational programmes.
In 2021, 18,321 students did WASSCE which was sponsored by the state government; among whom 10,441 were male, 7,880 were female.
According to the results, 4,627 female students had credit pass in English language – which is 58.7 per cent of the entire population; 5,632 males had credit pass – 54 per cent.
The commissioner revealed that 5,678 girls scored credits in Mathematics, while 4,726 boys had credits.
While considering the overall performance of the students, the girls had more credits in five subjects, which include Mathematics and English Language.
The least of 56 per cent had five credits which is against 48 per cent of their male colleagues who excelled in five subjects.
