Twenty students who are currently writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Bayelsa state have been confirmed to have the infectious disease.
This is coming barely three days after a student tested positive to the virus in Akwa Ibom.
The Permanent Secretary, Bayelsa State Ministry of Health, Inodu Apoku, while making the announcement did not mention the name of the student nor the school involved.
Mr. Apoku said the 20 positive cases were among 600 candidates writing the WAEC in the state that were screened, according to This Day newspaper.
THE INFORMANT247 had earlier reported that 13 students have tested positive to the virus nine days after the commencement of the terminal exams.
The students whose names were withheld for fear of stigmatisation now spread across four states of the federation, namely, Gombe, Kwara, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa state.
The federal government had ordered the partial reopening of schools for students in existing classes on August 4 to enable the students to prepare for their terminal examinations.
As of the time of this report, Nigeria has recorded over 53, 000 coronavirus cases leading to the death of more than 1,000 people in the country.
