UPDATED: Oborevwori, Okowa, other Delta PDP leaders defect to APC
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside immediate past governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba, the state capital, by Senator James Manager following a six-hour meeting at Government House. Manager emphasized that the collective decision was made to escape what he described as a “sinking boat.”
“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen, and others, have agreed to move to the APC,” he stated.
Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniagwu Charles, confirmed the defection, highlighting the necessity of evolving beyond PDP for the betterment of the state.
“There is a need for us to adjust our drinking patterns,” Aniagwu stated, underscoring that this change was essential to foster development, security, and the welfare of the people.
He likened the situation within the PDP to a palm wine whose taste has soured, reinforcing the need for a fresh start. The decision, as pointed out by Charles, was reached unanimously by the party leaders and stakeholders, with plans for a public declaration set for next Monday.
This significant political shift could reshape the landscape of party dominance in the South-South region, marking a pivotal moment in Delta State politics.
