Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have invaded Ukpor, the headquarters of Nnewi South council area of Anambra state, setting the secretariat on fire Wednesday morning, The Informant247 gathered.
A report by Daily Trust newspaper quoted a resident as saying that that attack might be from some unknown gunmen troubling communities within the southeast region.
The traditional ruler of Ukpor community, Igwe Nwosu Onyimadu, confirmed the incident, but said he had no details of the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga,who confirmed the incident said, “Report we received is that there was a case of arson. Unknown fellows set some buildings ablaze at the secretariat complex. Already, men of the fire service have mobilized to the area to put out the fire.
“Police operatives have also been deployed to cordon off the secretariat. People should go about their normal businesses as normalcy has returned to the area.”
He however could not confirm any death in connection with the incident.
