Two APC ward executives quit party in Kwara following Saliu Mustapha’s defection
Two ward executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State have resigned from the party, hours after the reported defection of Senator Saliu Mustapha to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The officials, identified as the Chairman and Secretary of Gambari Ward 1, Alhaji Aliyu Abdulhakeem and Abdulwaheed Dauda Adanla, respectively, announced their resignations in separate letters addressed to the APC Chairman in Ilorin East, Comrade Habib Lawal Ajibola.
In a resignation letter obtained by The Informant247, Abdulhakeem resigned both as the ward chairman and as a member of the APC with immediate effect, while Adanla stepped down as ward secretary and also withdrew his membership of the party.
In their separate resignation letters, the two executives cited personal considerations and careful reflection as reasons for their decisions.
Abdulhakeem thanked party members, fellow executives, elders and other stakeholders for the support and cooperation he received during his time in office, while wishing the APC peace, progress and success.
Similarly, Adanla said his decision followed careful consideration, adding that he appreciated the opportunity to serve the party.
He stated that he had worked during his tenure to uphold the APC constitution and advance the interests of the party in Gambari Ward 1.
The former secretary also indicated his readiness to hand over party documents, records, stamps and other properties in his possession to the appropriate authorities.
The resignations came shortly after Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, reportedly left the APC and emerged as the PDP senatorial candidate for Kwara Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mustapha’s move has already triggered fresh political calculations across Kwara Central, with attention now shifting to its possible impact on the APC’s structure in the district.
