According to several reports, Chelsea are now in pole position to sign the Argentine world cup winner, Enzo Fernandez from Benfica
The 21-year-old emerged favorites of European giants after playing a starring role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar, performances which saw him pick up the tournament’s Young Player Award.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Manchester United were keen on the starlet but it is Chelsea who are now closer to making things happen.
Benfica have stood firm in demanding that their player’s £106million release clause must be paid in full for any move to happen.
“We don’t want to sell Enzo Fernandez in January, but we are willing to satisfy the boy in the event of an offer of €120m.” Benfica president Rui Costa said.
The Blues are also wary of paying that figure in one installment and might offer a huge fee which would be paid out across a long time period
