Trader receives 7 strokes of cane for stealing 5 bags of salt
Nasiru Ahmed, a 25-year-old merchant, was sentenced to seven strokes of the cane by the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for stealing five bags of salt.
Ahmed, a resident of Kaduna State’s Tudun Wada Area, has been accused with shop breaking and larceny.
Ahmed was punished by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel after pleading guilty and pleading for mercy.
He pleaded with the criminal to be good and stop doing crimes.
Earlier, Mr Chidi Leo, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that Malam Abdulmalik Lateef reported the case to the Kawo Police Station on February 7.
The defendant, according to Leo, broke into the complainant’s business at Kawo Market Kaduna and took five bags of salt and two bags of flour.
He said that the defendant was apprehended by a security guard at the market after returning to steal additional things from the business.
The offence, according to Leo, violated sections 333 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code of 2017.
