Tinubu reinstates NTA DG, ED news in fresh changes

Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reinstated Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Mr. Ayo Adewuyi as the Executive Director of News.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu recalls DG of NTA, ED News; sets aside fresh appointments,’ outlines the directive to reverse the recent management changes within the agency, which included the appointment of new leaders in key positions. Dembos, who was appointed to his role in October 2023, had temporarily stepped down following these appointments but has now been instructed to return and complete his three-year tenure.

In addition, Ayo Adewuyi has also been recalled to fulfill his remaining term, which is set to conclude in 2027. This move reflects a significant shift back towards continuity in the management of the NTA, which is crucial for maintaining stability in the public broadcasting sector.

The changes effectively annul prior appointments that affected the roles of the director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.

Founded in 1977, the NTA is one of the largest television networks in Africa and has historically played an important role in disseminating government information. However, it has faced challenges regarding its efficiency, funding, and competition from private media outlets.

Dembos, with decades of experience in broadcasting, previously held various positions within the NTA before his recent appointment. His return to the leadership role highlights the Tinubu administration’s commitment to ensuring a stable and experienced management team at the national broadcaster.
