Tinubu departs Abuja, begins official two-nation trip to Japan, Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, for a significant two-nation journey to Japan and Brazil.

Tinubu, who departed on Friday, was accompanied by several government officials, including ministers and special advisers.

According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will initially stop over in Dubai before heading to Japan.

In Japan, the president is set to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

“While in Japan, President Tinubu will take part in plenary sessions focused on various themes related to the conference,” Onanuga noted. “He will also engage in bilateral meetings and meet with CEOs of Japanese companies that have investments in Nigeria.”

Following the TICAD9, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for a two-day state visit scheduled for August 24 to 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

“During his stay in Brazil, President Tinubu will engage in a bilateral meeting with President Lula and attend a business forum aimed at connecting with Brazilian investors,” Onanuga added.
