Tanker accident kills motorcyclist in Lagos

A tanker accident on Tuesday killed a motorcyclist in Lagos State.

The motorcyclist whose identity has not been disclosed, was crushed to death by tanker at the Alaba Express Bus Stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos State.

It was gathered that the 33,000-litre tanker was transporting premium motor spirit outbound Mile 2.

The tanker, following its collision with a motorcycle lost control and fell on its side.

The incident and death of the motorcyclist have been confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in a statement.

“Unfortunately, the motorcycle rider was crushed to death underneath the tanker and its contents are spilling onto the road rendering the scene extremely hazardous to other motorists and passersby,” said LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue revealed that “an adult male motorcyclist” was trapped under the tanker.

The two emergency operators have said that rescue operation was ongoing to prevent the degeneration of the accident into a fire blast.
