Suspected motorcycle thief set ablaze in Niger

A suspected motorcycle thief was on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, apprehended and burnt to death by angry residents in Mokwa local government area of Niger State.

According to a local news outlet,Tswangi TV, the suspected thief was burnt to death around Sogbafo Guest Inn area in Mokwa.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect was allegedly caught in the act of stealing a motorcycle before being overpowered by the residents.

The situation reportedly sparked outrage as the crowd, expressing anger and frustration, set the suspect ablaze.

The Informant247 recalls that a similar incident occurred in the town on August 23, 2025, where a suspected motorcycle thief was set on ablaze around Mokwa General Hospital.

Some residents claimed that that act of motorcycle stealing has been a reoccurrence in Mokwa over the past years, with the thief most often times leaving the owner of the motorcycle sometimes killed or badly injured.
