Surveyors, KW-GIS unite to prevent land disputes in Kwara

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) and other land-related associations to enhance the ease of doing business in the state.

In a Statement Signed by the Press Secretary, Kwara Geographic information Service Azeezat Is’aq/Yusuf Abdulrazaq, The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS), Esv. Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman, gave this assurance in Ilorin while hosting representatives of NIS and the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN) in his office.

Sulyman emphasized the agency’s readiness to work with organizations that align with the state government’s policies aimed at improving the lives of Kwarans. He highlighted the importance of engaging professionals in land administration matters, noting that failure to adhere to proper procedures and ethical standards could hinder the agency’s operations and lead to legal disputes.

He urged the associations to comply with established protocols and consult the agency to verify the status of land surveys, particularly as the state transitions to an automated system. Sulyman assured the visitors of KW-GIS’s continuous support, describing the associations as key partners in progress. He also promised to maintain an open-door policy to facilitate smooth collaboration.

“All requests should be forwarded to my office for prompt action and onward transmission to His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for approval,” he added.

Speaking at the meeting, the State Surveyor General, Surv. Afolayan Timothy Adeyemi, and the Director of Physical Planning and Development Control, Tpl. Abdulhakeem Abdulsalam, urged the associations to follow proper procedures for survey approval before issuing building permits. They also advised that the Office of the Surveyor General be consulted for professional guidance on land-related issues.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Kwara State Chapter, Surveyor Adewale Lere, explained that their visit aimed to strengthen ties with KW-GIS and foster synergy to prevent land disputes.
