Super Falcons players, officials held hostage by NCDC

Reports have emerged on how the officials and players of Nigeria Super Falcons were held hostage by the officials of the National Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning.

Recall that the Super Falcons had qualified for the African Women Cup Of Nations (AWCON) after defeating their Cote’ d’ivoire counterparts 1 nil in the second leg of the qualifiers on Wednesday.

The nine times African Champions had earlier defeated the Ivorians in the first leg of the final round of qualifiers 2-0, thus making it a 3-0 aggregate.

While basking in the Euphoria of the qualifications, the players and officials of the team despite providing their Covid-19 test results were held hostage by the officials of NCDC on their arrival back to the country.

According to NSM media, NCDC officials insisted that the players and the officials must go through another round of Covid-19 test despite the one they did less than 24-hours ago.

“The players and officials departed Abidjan just few hours after the match (Wednesday) and landed at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport in Abuja armed with their Covid-19 test results done less than 24 hours ago, but were held hostage by officials of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, who insisted that all players and officials must undergo another round of routine test and pay a certain amount of money before they will be allowed to leave the airport”

NSM media noted that as at 2:30 am the Super Falcons, who have done the country proud were still at the mercy of the NCDC officials.

The victory, ensured that Nigeria picked one of the tickets to the Africa women’s championship in Morocco.
