Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the esteemed Sultan of Sokoto, has issued a directive for Muslims to commence the search for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH starting from Sunday.

As the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), the Sultan conveyed this message through a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council in Sokoto.

Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar, holds great significance as it marks the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) and the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir festival by Muslims worldwide.

The statement expressed, “This is to notify the Muslim Ummah that Sunday, 18th June, corresponding to the 29th day of Dhul-Qadah, shall be the day to search for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH. Muslims are urged to commence the sighting of the new moon on Sunday and report its visibility to the nearest District or Village Head, who will then communicate the findings to the Sultan.”

The statement concluded with a prayer, seeking Allah’s assistance for all Muslims in fulfilling their religious obligations.
